Dulin United Methodist Church is a multi-generational, multi-ethnic, mid-size church of 475 disciples of which 250 are active. There are two worship services with a combined attendance of 215 disciples. Dulin Church has vibrant and engaging worship services complemented by a strong music ministry.

The Director of Music Ministries is a lay position that will focus on casting the mission and vision of Dulin Church by developing, coordinating, and administering the music ministry with adults, youth, and children. This position will support congregational worship that is vibrant and transformative, drawing from a variety of musical styles. This position incorporates combined skills on keyboard (piano/organ) and in choral directing. 

The position description is an aid and list of principle duties intended to guide the Director of Music Ministries. The Director of Music Ministries shall be visible and accessible to the congregation and accountable to the Staff-Parish Relations Team and the Pastor, with the latter serving as the direct supervisor of this position. 

A. Duties and Responsibilities

1. Develop and lead the music ministry which is consistent with the mission and vision of Dulin United Methodist Church in collaboration with pastor, staff and church leadership. 

2. Plan and implement music for two Sunday morning worship services, and seasonal worship services and events in consultation with the pastor. 

3. Recruit, rehearse, and direct members of the Sanctuary Choir, Chancel Handbell Ringers, Children’s Choir, instrumental and vocal soloists and small ensembles.

4. Working in a team format, attend the weekly staff meeting, the weekly worship planning meeting, and work in coordination with other staff members for music/worship related events. Perform other duties as assigned by the Pastor. 

5. Other responsibilities include:

a. Leadership of music during the Sunday School hour for children

b. Maintenance of all music resources and equipment including the choral music library and instruments

c. Providing music for weddings and Services of Death and Resurrection. 

B. Required Qualifications

1. A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in music.

2. Strong background in Christian liturgy and music.

3. A high level of musicianship, including proficiency in piano, organ, and choral directing skills. 

4. Interest, demonstrated ability, and background in a wide variety of musical styles.

5. Engaging leadership skills; ability to recruit, organize, mentor, and inspire volunteers.

6.  Effective communication skills. 

7. Ability to work effectively with a wide range of persons in regard to age, faith development and music ability. 

8. Self-starter, independent learner and collaborative partner. 

9. An appreciation and understanding of both traditional and contemporary worship traditions.

C. Desired Qualifications

1. Disciple of Jesus Christ.

2. Commitment to learning and implementing new developments in church music and leadership. 

3. Ministry experience in a church setting.

4. Demonstrated creative approach to integrating music into worship experiences. 

D. Computer skills: have knowledge or be willing to be trained to learn:

1. Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Publishing, Excel, PowerPoint 

and Outlook

2. Servant Keeper (church membership management database)

3. Multi-media applications

4. Microsoft 365

5. Internet Research

This is a full-time position for which the beginning salary is in the $47,500 range, depending on education and experience. The position requires 35 hours per week on site. Dulin Church assists in paying for health insurance (80%) and provides a pension through The United Methodist Church. A total of 20 days of leave is provided - 10 vacation days and 10 sick leave days - per year in addition to all regularly scheduled Federal Government holidays. Continuing education opportunities are also provided.
